What to Expect

The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, the day when the tilt of Earth’s axis is most inclined towards the sun. It represents a time of renewal, abundance, exhilirating energy and full bloom, making it a great time to detoxify the body. In Irish, Solstice is 'Grianstad', literally 'Sun-stop'. We have 2 great moments in the year when the light and dark interplay in the universe. Summer solstice is where we have maximum amount of sun - where the sun climbs its highest and shines its brightest. Colette and Aoife Moore from Ancient Soul Healing are inviting you to join them as they lead you through 108 sun salutations. 108 sun salutations is known as a moving meditation, where each move is linked to the breath. Why 108 many people ask us? The number 108 is sacred and significant in many disciplines. To name but a few, there are 108 pressure points and 108 energy lines in the body, the distance between the Earth and sun is 108 times the diameter of the sun, India is said to have 108 sacred sites and many Buddhist temples have 108 steps representing the 108 steps to enlightenment. Outdoor yoga is something special! Where better to flow with 108 sun salutes than under the evening rays. We will start with a warm up to prepare the body, move through the salutations and finish with a lovely long Shavasana and guided meditation. We also welcome you all to bring a flask of your favourite hot drink, some snacks and sit with us at the end for a short evening picnic. If it's your first time to do 108 sun salutations, we promise you will feel energised with all those happy hormones flooding your body and will be delighted with yourself that you did it :-) You have to be able to do one sun salutation before you can do 108 so we will send a video to all our attendees in advance of the event with Surya Namaskar A, the sun salutation we will be doing. Keep an eye on your emails and our social media pages also for updates. We are very excited about this event! To do it on the longest day of the year and to do it in one of our local green spaces, Rockfield Park, delights us even more! All Levels/All Bodies/All Ages welcome. No yoga experience needed. When: June 21st Time: 7pm - 9pm/9.15pm What to bring: Please bring a yoga mat, water and a blanket. Prepare for Irish 'summer' weather and definitely wear layers. Note: Please come 10 minutes before the start time.
